Page Two - The Engagement

When we got together, I wanted our first date to be at Reunion Tower in Dallas. We talked about this many times and we were both looking forward to it. Not just because it was a nice place, but we were both dying to go out on a real date together! So this was still the plan. Our "real date" was going to be at Reunion Tower. I spent days writing my "speech"... I spent about a week or more memorizing what I was going to say... my plan was to ask her to marry me :)

I got "the ring". I hand selected the diamond after much research and shopping. I had it set in this simple setting (the picture to the left is the actual ring). It's a 18k Gold Six-Prong Solitaire Setting with a 0.40-Carat Marquise Diamond. I had it hidden at home until we were ready to leave and I snuck it out.

We went to Anteres Restaurant at Reunion Tower. It was a perfect night. The lighting was perfect. The mood was perfect. The food and wine was perfect. Kris looked so beautiful. I was so nervous, I just thought for sure I would forget everything I wanted to say.

After dinner... I waited for the right moment... I moved over to Kris and knelt in front of her, on one knee and holding her hand. I told her what I wanted to say (what I had wrote) and it came out perfectly (I didn't forget!). Right at the crucial moment when I was reaching in my pocket to get the ring and ask the actual "question", a waiter with a tray of glasses tripped over my leg! Ha! Because I was on one knee, my leg was sticking out and the waiter didn't see me. It was unbelievable! Anyways, it was only for a moment then everything was fine. I took the ring out and asked her to marry me. She said YES! I loved it... it was just like it was supposed to happen, like in the movies. Excellent.

Unbeknownst to us, there was a group of people at the adjacent tables watching us and when Kris said yes, they all started applauding. It was so cool. There was a waitress that saw the commotion and noticed that I had just proposed, so she asked us if we had a camera. Incredibly enough, I did have my camera, but I only brought it for the bag it was in and as an excuse to have something to keep the ring in, so it wasn't bulging out in my pocket. I didn't even think of pictures! So... the waitress took a picture right after the moment:

And here's a picture I took of the ring on her hand:

I really couldn't have wished for a more beautiful night. It was like a fantasy... and with the woman of my dreams. Sigh :)

And that's pretty much the story... for now...
